New Year's Resolutions

Office just celebrated New Year this afternoon and one of the activities was sharing our New Year's resolutions.

I have stopped counting down and making resolutions years ago. Like many others, I don't keep them so it's meaningless to go through the ritual.

But for today's activity, I muttered something like work-life balance (well, on an joyous event like this, you don't want to be a wet blanket by sharing your belief and philosophy on New Year's resolutions).

If you have goals to make, targets to set, why wait till or do it only on New Year? You can do it anytime of the year.

Nevertheless, I still look forward to a new year. Though not much luck, I always hope that next year would be better than present.

Sometimes the most simple things in life, are the most difficult to achieve  o_o

McDonald's, You Did It Again

McDonald's is selling Doraemon Chinese Zodiac collectibles at $2 each, with every purchase. Available from 1 Jan 10, while stocks last.

Old trick, but it works!

Counting down to 1 Jan ...

Souvenirs? Thanks But No Thanks

It's time of the year to do some spring cleaning.

Surfaced many items that are not practical, such as key chains, clock, bottle opener and chopsticks among others. These are souvenirs bought by friends and colleagues when they travel. Over time, one really does not know what to do with them. To throw them away is a waste; to keep them takes up space; to recycle is not appropriate. So every year, I will take them out from the cabinet and put them back after cleaning the shelves.

A better way to go green and save money is to buy titbits or foodstuff when go on travelling, rather than spending money on keepsakes. People can appreciate the country's delicacies and foodstuff doesn't have long shelf life.

Of course, this has not solved my storage problem this year. But hopefully next year, there will be a flea market in my neighbourhood again.

Bless You !

Were working on my resume when I received a sms from an ex-colleague whom we worked together in my first full-time job (that was 10 years ago).

During this festive season, I want to thank those who believe in me and never give up on me.

Have a Blessed Christmas!

Be Discipline

End of the year has always been a time for me to unwind, thus I have the tendency to reserve my leave to the end of the year.

This year has been slightly unsettled for me.  Instead of slowing down in our activities, we are gearing up.  Having more than 10 days of leave that could not be brought forward to next year, I am caught in a "stressful" chore to clear them.

To ensure I remember to enjoy my entitlement, I actually have to stick a post-it on my laptop, to remind myself constantly of the number of leave I need to clear.

It sounds silly as leave is such an enjoyment, but for workaholic like me, taking leave requires discipline.

Miss Singapore World Saga

First, it was her Singlish, then it was the credit card fraud.

Thought that the entire episode would have come to an end with Ris Low relinquished her Miss Singapore World 2009 title.

Nope, now she was on the verge of revenge, to bring the first-runner up Claire Lee to shame.

The former Miss Singapore World has accused Claire Lee for backstabbing her by tipping the media on her credit card fraud charges.

It is the first time, in my memory, that a local pageant has turned into a mockery.

I am glad that the 19-year old is finally not going to represent Singapore.  I don't care who will be the new representative nor if the latter were to trip and fall on international stage.

Not because of her poor comment of English (who am I to judge her), nor was her past dishonest act (you can't blame her for her bipolar medical condition). It is her lack of maturity.

Need I explain further?

Andy Goes Public

This is a historic moment: after 24 years, Andy Lau finally went public with his Malaysian partner Carol Chu.

He appeared at her father's funeral and held her hand tightly when they landed at the airport in Hong Kong.

Probably he knows that there is no point denying the relationship.  Maybe he can't take the pressure from the media anymore. Perhaps he wants to prove to her that he will protect her and be with her for the rest of their lives, especially now that she has lost her dearest kin.

I choose to believe it's his way to declare his love for her.  Action speaks louder than words.

Andy Lau - you have make us love you even more!

The "Thriller" - Michael Jackson

The death of the pop legend Michael Jackson shocked the world. He died of cardiac arrest on 25 Jun 09, at the age of 50.

Millions are grieving over him and paying tribute to him at social networking websites. More than 1 million fans have registered to get tickets for his memorial service. My friend who specialises in fengshui even analysed his Ba Zi on her website, though she is not a big fan of his.

I am never a fan of MJ. My first brief encounter with his music was in Secondary 2, when the class prepared for a Talentine contest and chose his song "We Are the World".

I couldn't agree with his lifestyle. To many people, he was a mystery. His unacceptable dress code in the court, his over-friendly behaviour with children, his unexplained medical condition and rumored plastic surgery which left him "seriously disfigured" were things which a conventional woman like me could not reconcile with. How could anyone, when he couldn't even come in terms with his own race?

He was lonely. Despite married twice and dated other celebrities, had anyone unlocked his heart successfully and freed his soul? I doubt so, perhaps with the exception of kids.

Did he lead a life he wanted? He made several attempts. Instead of feeling aggrieved, he made several visible efforts to be the change he wanted to be. Few in this world dare to dream, left alone have the courage to plan their destiny and stay committed, be it done with clear-headedness or led by insanity.

Though I am nonchalant, and not prepare to be obsessed with his past works in order to be in sync with the world, I hope he is free now... free from media, free from scrutiny.

Live Now

"We must guard our time jealously, remembering that it is the most valuable resource we have and that it cannot be replenished. We must be more wary of wasting our time than we are our money" - Gary Hayden, Mind Your Body, 2 July 09

May Your Wish Comes True

Please remind me that Trevi Fountain in Rome is one of the places that I shall visit, because of its legend:

A traditional legend holds that if visitors throw a coin into the fountain, they are ensured a return to Rome. A reported current interpretation is that two coins will lead to a new romance and three will ensure either a marriage or divorce. A reported current version of this legend is that it is lucky to throw three coins with one's right hand over one's left shoulder into the Trevi Fountain. (extracted from Wikipedia)

Enjoying Life

I might be suffering from a relapse, not something terminal but surely could be irritating.

Expecting a discharge, I was told that there were signs of relapse (it is just less than a year since I was operated). Having gone through it before, I was as cool as a cucumber. Perhaps also because the situation appears to be mild now.

What do I intend to do?

Starting from this Sunday, I will start exercising, starting with jogging. In another week's time, I will visit my Chinese physician since no amount of western medication could help.

Then I will make a trip down to OTO Bodycare. Have been eyeing the new OTO Power Tap for so long that my nephew has to keep reminding me. I am just waiting for GSS.

Then I will start to plan for my holiday overseas... yes! I am going to travel, enjoy life and seek some peace. It has been 2 years since I last went for an overseas holiday.

My hair will also need a boost... oh should be a perm.

All in all, that will cost me quite a bomb. And not forgetting to pen a letter to my dear facial products' manufacturer. I mean how could they take away our members' privileges at this time?

What a fair bit to accomplish.. So I will be taking a few days' off for all these.

So much to do, yet so glad my life is going beyond the 1m x 1m workstation.

Let Go

I am not suffering from writer's block. I am just at the crossroads.

Keep playing the song 放了爱 because it makes me feel serene. Finally reached a decision.

Let go.

Let go of false hopes. Let go of past beliefs. Let go of expectations. Let go of stubbornness.

Let go for free space. Let go for fresh hopes. Let go for new choices.

Just let go.

"Some say holding on is what makes you strong. But sometimes it takes more strength to just let go and move on"

The Perfect Man

Perfect Cut is back.

I simply love this TV drama. Had been watching almost every episode of the first series. Hardly missed it.

Simply love Thomas Ong. He and Michelle Chia look so compatible.

Thomas Ong - I like his care-free character. Cool and composed. He is not extremely handsome, but standing tall at 1.82m, he is extremely pleasant to the eyes. He has this lazy and heck care attitude, yet is full of charisma. Charming..

If you were to ask me, he is the Perfect Man :-) What a rare Singapore man. I always feel at peace when I look at him.

And a very perfect man for the Perfect Cut!

By This Time Next Year

1. Be able to articulate my thoughts fluently, positively and slowly (meaning don't say all I feel. Reserve some). Read and listen extensively.

2. Be cool (even during times of stress and unpleasantness). All will be over, be it good or bad times

3. Explore beyond full-time job (be open to new options such as freelancing or investment..something I always wanted to do)

4. Take charge of own life and trust my gut feel (ah, haven't I learnt that enough)

My Horoscope this Month (on Career)

You're looking for a little permanence on the 1st. Make that a lot of permanence: You're tired of not knowing what's coming next, work-wise.

You can take some steps, but you can't control everything and there will always be an element of uncertainty in every career. So, go ahead and take that permanent position if the company offers to upgrade your freelance status, but don't expect that you'll never again need to wonder where all of this is going. Don't worry: You can handle this! Nobody ever got through life without worrying about their job now and then, so you really shouldn't take this as a sign that anything's wrong.

On the 5th, you need to spend a little time thinking about how you feel. Emotions play a role in job performance, you know!
